A little tattoo I did

Jamie from the brilliant Magpie Studio asked me if I'd design a 'JR' monogram tattoo for him, and he just sent me a pic of how the inked version is looking.

I don't know if I've mentioned it before, but monograms are pretty much my favourite thing in the world so this was a lot of fun to do.

Custom guitar lettering

My mate Ali from the great Up Up Design in Glasgow asked me to draw some custom lettering for his new guitar using his grandparents names. It was a nice thing to do and the end result looks great applied to what I’m informed by people who know these things, is a rather good instrument.

Milltag x Steven Bonner cycling jersey

For those of you into cycling, if you need a new jersey when you're out riding anytime soon, you might want to consider the new shirt I designed for Milltag.

'Last Place' is inspired by the Giro d'Italia which used to give a black jersey to the slowest rider back in the forties. I found that idea strikes a chord with me as I don't ride to race and do it purely for enjoyment – I couldn't care about my times or speed, I just want to enjoy the ride, so last place for me means I get to spend more time having fun if that makes sense! Plus, black jerseys are very cool.

Although I've designed plenty of tshirt graphic over the years, the jersey was my first chance to play with a cut-and-sew garment from the ground up. It was a lot of fun being able to consider everything from the side panels and sleeves, to the collar tips and even inside the back pockets.

Available to buy at Milltag.

Muirside typeface release

My first commercial typeface in the Opentype format was released recently and is for sale exclusively at Hype for Type as part of their Exclusive Artist's Volume 5 edition.

With previous releases including folks like Alex Trochut, Si Scott, Luke Lucas and Tom Muller, I'm incredibly proud to have been asked to join in.

The typeface is called Muirside, and is based on lettering I produced for a client project a while back that I always wanted to expand upon. It's a stencil font whose shapes are inspired by bicycle frame shapes and drawn to classic American proportions, giving it great legibility at display sizes. Each character features an alternate so you can mix and match letters to suit your headline.

Buy it at Hype for Type.

Tennent’s Original Export launches

The new Tennent's Original Export lager has launched in stores across the country, featuring 'The Export T' which I designed for use on all packaging and advertising.

Drawn to a brief asking me to illustrate the 'Spirit of Scotland', I had a lot of fun with it. According to Tennents: "it incorporates the best of Scotland, featuring iconic architecture such as the Forth Rail Bridge, Charles Rennie Mackintosh designs and modern locations such as Glasgow’s Armadillo."

I'm incredibly proud of working with a Scottish household name and think the end results look fantastic right across the full range of packaging, created by JKR.

Art Director’s Club silver

An image I created for Audi to illustrate the grip an Audi Quattro has to the road has been recognised in the 2012 Art Director's Club Awards for Germany.

It won Silver in the Print category, and also gained a separate Commendation in the Out-Of-Home category. It's a piece I'm very proud of so I was very humbled to be told of the win.

Art directed by David Scherer and Bastian Adam of Kempertrautmann, you can see the winning work here.
